Historically, islands have often been places of isolation, where society’s outcasts and non-conformists were sent, the water surrounding the island acting as a border to protect the greater mainstream population from those on the other side. Over time, island residents construct their own communities, countering isolation by establishing currents of connection that create a new island identity. This work is an exploration of the flow of these tidal networks and the strength that a small isolated community can build in its isolated experience through connecting with itself and it’s roots.
